What Are In-line G and Offset G on a Flute?
In-line G: the two G keys on the flute are aligned with the other keys.
Offset G: the flute's two G keys are set slightly to the side, outward from the other keys.
How do these differences help us?
Everyone's fingers differ in length, and choosing a suitable instrument matters. This is why offset and in-line layouts exist.
Offset keys are often preferred by players with shorter fingers, as the hand position is more ergonomic.
In-line keys are often preferred by players with longer fingers.
Some online discussions suggest that in-line flutes are preferred by virtuosos. This is not correct: the choice depends on personal preference and finger length.
