Can a Flute Be Tuned?

Of course. But why tune it?

Musically, it is important to train the ear with accurate pitches. A solo may seem fine, but in a duo, trio, quartet or orchestra, the instruments must share a tuning reference. For example, if two flutes playing a duet sound out of tune together, they need tuning to achieve a unified sound.

How do you tune it?

Play A into the tuner. A green indicator means the pitch is correct. If the needle moves right and the red indicator lights up, the note is sharp. Pull the headjoint out slightly to lower it.

If the needle moves left and the red indicator lights up, the note is flat. To raise it, push the headjoint further in, nearly or completely closed as needed.
