General Information for Flute Learners
Earlier articles covered many aspects of the flute, including cleaning, holding it and producing a sound.
This month I wanted to share some general information.
• The flute is not easy at first. Producing a clear sound takes patience, and correct, systematic practice helps you through this stage. Once you achieve it, playing becomes very enjoyable.
• Keep your body relaxed rather than tense when playing.
• Repeated breathing during practice may make you feel dizzy. The original article describes this as common in the first months; stop and rest if it happens.
• Do not put your flute away without cleaning it after practice.
• When practising on the headjoint alone, the note produced is A-flat.
• With the opening closed, the note is A.
