The Secret to Playing the Violin
Playing an instrument well requires hours of correct practice. Attention to a few key points and thoughtful practice can make progress faster.
An instrument as demanding as the violin cannot be mastered through one practice method alone. Patient attention to these points will help you develop the sound you want. As a bowed instrument, the violin needs careful bow practice, with attention to each stroke. You can vary these exercises in several ways.
Develop your technique by using different rhythmic patterns and amounts of pressure in the lower half, upper half and whole bow. Your sound will naturally improve with this work.
In short, the bow is to the violin what breath is to a person. The more patiently you practise sustained bowing, the more satisfied you will be with the sound when playing pieces.
