How to Get a Good Tone from Classical Guitar

For a pleasing classical guitar tone, start with an instrument made from good-quality wood and with a sound you like. But a good instrument alone is not enough.

Having a good guitar is only the first step. The second is good technique: the better your technique, the better your tone. The third is nail care. Although many think classical guitar is played with nails alone, nails by themselves do not produce the best tone. File them neither too long nor too short, so both the fingertip and nail touch the string. This explains the slightly sloping shape of many classical guitarists' nails.

When these elements come together, you can achieve a pleasing, full tone. Practice makes it more consistent. Enjoy your practice.
