What Is the Correct Posture and Seating Position at the Piano?
When sitting at the piano, avoid sitting too far back; position yourself on the front half of the seat. Keep your back upright. When you look down freely, you should be able to see your knees, with your feet flat on the floor. If your feet do not reach the floor, place books or a footrest beneath them.
Posture is not the only consideration: the right piano bench or stool matters too. An ordinary chair may be too low, encouraging you to lean forward and gradually develop a rounded posture. Choose a seat designed for piano playing.
