How to Accompany on the Piano
The piano is a versatile instrument used in many ways for solos and accompaniment. Accompanying another instrument requires an accompaniment arrangement. Professional accompaniment uses a piano score alongside the solo part. One of the most important requirements is knowing the solo part thoroughly. To stay synchronised, the accompanist must understand both parts.
Can popular songs be accompanied on the piano using notation? Yes, if an accompaniment arrangement has been written. Otherwise, chord symbols can guide the harmony and keep the accompaniment in key. Any song can be accompanied this way, provided you know which notes make up the chords.
