Drawing in Art

The Turkish term comes from the French dessin. Drawing describes an object's form, shape and outward appearance. In a painting, it represents forms through lines. Drawing is the foundation of painting. Colour, light, shade and composition are built on it. However beautiful the colours, weak drawing prevents a painting from becoming a strong work. Initial studies in architecture and decorative arts also begin with drawing. Good drawing connects and repeats straight and curved lines harmoniously.
