Should I study music education or at a conservatoire? What are the differences?

Under the qualifications system described in this archived article, a music-education degree qualifies you to teach music, while also allowing other musical careers: performing, composing, joining a symphony orchestra, university teaching, stage work and concerts. A conservatoire degree on its own did not grant teaching eligibility under that system; additional pedagogical training after graduation was required. Other branches of music could still be pursued professionally.

According to the figures in this archived article, although university quotas vary, around 40 students are admitted on average in each city across Turkey. Because relatively few people knew about these exams and application numbers were limited, roughly one in five candidates was successful.
