What Is a Certificate Programme?

Certificate programmes aim to build disciplined individual and group practice, instrumental control and the ability to express feelings and ideas freely through playing.

The certificate programme described here is a substantial, long-term course with four levels. Each level is planned for eight months, or thirty-two weeks, and ends with a two-part examination at the teaching institution: written theory followed by practical performance. The article describes an examination panel comprising the student’s teacher, a music teacher appointed by the Ministry of National Education and the institution’s director. A score of at least 70 is required to complete a level and proceed to the next, with a separate certificate for each level. Check the current structure and requirements with the institution.

The programme described requires participants to be physically ready for their instrument, to be at least of primary-school level, and to attend lessons regularly.

Under the programme described in this article, students can pause after completing a level and resume later. Attendance is compulsory during each level; absences can lead to removal from the certificate programme. Confirm the current rules with the institution.

The article describes successful completion of all levels as leading to an instructor certificate for teaching an instrument. The certificate’s current recognition and any employment requirements should be confirmed with the institution and the relevant authority.
